Judge Melissa J. Bellan is committed to serving with itegrity, independence and fairness. She is Presiding Judge of County Court at Law 2, a civil court with jurisdiction in Dallas County. She has a long history of service in the community as a judge, attorney and volunteer. She has been active in legal organizations such as the National Board of Advocates, Dallas Bar Association, Dallas Trial Lawyers Association, Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, and Dallas Women Lawyers Association. She also served on the Ferguson Road Initiative.
Before being elected in 2018 by the voters of Dallas County, Judge Melissa J. Bellan began her career serving as an associate at several law firms, handling a wide range of civil, family and probate matters. She later founded two firms, serving as partner, further developing her civil litigation practice and honing her firm management skills. Judge Bellan has more than 18 years of combined judicial and legal experience. She is a graduate of Sweet Briar College and Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
Judge Melissa J. Bellan first became involved in local Dallas County politics as a supporter of Democratic campaigns, working as a volunteer and fundraiser. She formalized her involvement in the party by becoming an elected Precinct Chair, performing service that earned her the Dallas County Democratic Party Volunteer of the Year Award. She later served the party as General Counsel for election law matters. She has frequently volunteered on election protection projects over the years.
